General Conditions of Sale for Seat Options on Air France flights in the Economy Cabin
The terms and expressions used in the present General Conditions of Sale are defined as follows: "Air France": Société Air France, a limited liability company incorporated under French law, with a registered office at 45 rue de Paris, F-95747 Roissy CDG Cedex, France, and registered with the Registry of Commerce and Companies of Bobigny under number 420 495 178. “Air France flight”: Long-haul, Medium-haul and Short-haul flights, with an Air France flight number and operated by Air France, allowing you to book a Seat Option. "Business Cabin": area aboard the aircraft for customers who have purchased a Business fare ticket. "Customer": an individual person of the age of majority with a reservation in the Economy cabin holding an e-ticket and wishing to reserve a Seat Option. Air France advises all persons with reduced mobility who have special travel needs, notably those requiring more leg room, to contact SAPHIR services (via the "Contact us" section of our website) prior to reserving a Seat Option. "Duo Seat" : seat in the Economy Cabin on Long-Haul Flights, located
- at the rear of the Boeing 777 and 747 aircraft, in some cases near galleys or restrooms,
- at the front of the Airbus 330.
"Economy cabin": area aboard the aircraft for customers who have purchased an economy fare ticket. "Extra legroom seat": seat in the Economy Cabin that offers more legroom than standard seats and that can be reserved by the Customer as defined by the present Conditions. Extra legroom seats can be located:
- near emergency exit doors
- in some rows other than those located next to the emergency exit doors.
"General Conditions of Sale" or "Conditions" or "Present": the present Conditions defining the General Conditions of Sale for a Seat Option. "Long-Haul Flight": a Long-Haul Flight with an AF flight number and provided by Air France, offering the opportunity to reserve a Seat Option. "Medium-Haul Flight": a Medium-Haul Flight with an AF flight number and provided by Air France, offering the opportunity to reserve a Seat Option. "Premium cabin": area aboard the aircraft located between the Business and Economy cabins for customers who have purchased a Premium fare ticket. "Price" : "Price": prices are shown in euros* and are per person, all taxes included. The price of a Seat reservation depends on the Seat Option selected by the Customer and varies depending on travel dates, destination and seat area. * Or the equivalent amount in local currency on our websites. The price is rounded to the nearest whole unit and varies according to exchange rates, which are revised twice per year. "Seat at the front of the cabin": seat at the front of the cabin": seat located in the front of the Economy cabin, either in the first rows or immediately after the Economy Comfort seats. "Economy Comfort Seat": seat in the Economy cabin with extra legroom and a seat back that reclines further. These seats are located in the first rows of each section of the Economy cabin. They are gradually being introduced on long-haul flights. "Seat Option" or "Seat Options": opportunity offered to Customers to reserve a Seat Option under the present Conditions, subject to availability. "Short-Haul Flight": a Short-Haul Flight with an AF flight number and provided by Air France, offering the opportunity to reserve a Seat Option. "Websites": Air France websites accessible through www.airfrance.com
2.1 A Customer may purchase a Seat Option, subject to availability on Air France Flights:
- when purchasing a ticket online,
- after purchasing a ticket in “My Bookings” on our website or app,
- during online check-in,
- at certain interactive kiosks or check-in counters in certain airports,
- at Air France ticket offices and call centres,
- through their travel agent.
2.2 A Customer traveling on a Flying Blue award ticket can reserve a Seat Option after purchasing their ticket, in the "My Bookings" or during the online check in process. 2.3 On Short- and Medium-Haul Flights, only the "Extra Legroom Seat" and “Seat at the front of the cabin” Options are available. 2.4 The “Seat at the front of the cabin” Option cannot be booked online when purchasing the ticket in the following cases:
- Customers with reduced mobility who require special services must contact the Saphir services (via the “Contact Us” section of our Websites) before booking a Seat Option.
- children traveling alone and using the Kids Solo service.
3.1 Customers can pay for the Seat Option using one of the following payment cards: American Express, Mastercard/Eurocard, Visa, Diners, UATP, JCB. 3.2 Seat Options can be paid in cash at Air France ticket offices. 3.3 After purchasing their ticket, Flying Blue members can use Miles to pay for their Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our websites. 3.4 Blue Credits can be used to pay for Seat Options. BlueBiz members can use their Blue Credits to pay for the Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our websites. 3.5 Air France will make every effort to respect any Seat Option assignment reserved according to the present Conditions. The Customer is informed by the present Conditions that Air France may be required to modify Seat Option assignments for operational reasons related to security and/or safety measures or operational irregularities, even after boarding. In such cases, Air France cannot be held responsible. The price of the Seat Option will be reimbursed according to the terms listed in Article 5 below to Customers who could not benefit from a Seat Option reserved under the present Conditions. 3.6 A Seat Option reserved by a Customer is non-transferable. 3.7 A Seat Option reserved by a Customer may be transferred to another flight. 3.8 A Seat Option reserved by a Customer may be exchanged to purchase another available Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our websites. In this case, the Customer must pay any price difference between the Seat Options.
4.1 By reserving a Seat Option, the Customer agrees to meet the following cumulative conditions: (i) The Customer must have the capacity to enter into contractual relations. (ii) If the Customer chooses a Seat Option located near an emergency exit, he or she must be able to assist in the event of an evacuation and must therefore fulfil the attribution criteria defined by air regulations: for safety and security reasons, occupancy of these Seats is limited to passengers able to understand safety instructions and meet the physical requirements. This provision is meant to allow rapid access to emergency exits. Extra legroom seats cannot therefore be assigned to the following persons:
- passengers with reduced mobility (traveling with or without a service animal),
- pregnant women,
- passengers whose body mass (waist larger than 135 cm / 53 in) is likely to restrict access to an emergency exit,
- all infants and children up to and including 11 years of age,
- children of any age traveling alone and benefiting from the Kids Solo service,
- passengers traveling with an animal in the cabin,
- Passengers unable to fully understand or communicate in either French or English.
5.1 A Customer having reserved a Seat Option may only obtain a refund for the Price of the Seat Option in the following situations:
- The flight for which he or she reserved the Seat Option is canceled and the Seat Option could not be honored on the rebooked flight;
- Air France reassigned the Customer to another seat due to operational reasons related to operational irregularities or security and/or safety requirements.
- The Customer purchased a a refundable fare and canceled their entire trip.
Flying Blue members who have provided their Flying Blue number at the time of purchasing their ticket will benefit from the conditions below.
- Air France and KLM Flying Blue Ultimate, Platinum or Club 2000, Skipper members can book a Seat Option free of charge.
- Air France and KLM Flying Blue Gold members can reserve a Seat Option free of charge as of 72 hours before departure.
- Air France and KLM Flying Blue Silver members can reserve a Seat Option free of charge as of 24 hours before departure, except for the Economy Comfort Seat Option, which is not free of charge.
Only Flying Blue members who have provided their Flying Blue number at the time of purchasing their tickets can benefit from the conditions listed above.
Air France shall not be liable and shall not be deemed to have failed in its obligations in the event of non-performance of all or part of the services covered by the present contract due to a case of force majeure as defined or interpreted by French law.
In such a case, the Customer shall not be entitled to any indemnity, interest, or compensation for any direct or indirect loss suffered as a result of the failure to provide services.
Data collected by Air France for the purposes of this Option are processed in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.
Air France reserves the right to modify these Conditions at any time.
Subscriptions to the Option shall be subject to the Conditions in force at the time of booking, unless a change to these Conditions is required by law or a governmental authority (in which case this change will also apply to all orders already placed).
General Conditions of Sale for Standard Seats on Air France flights in the Economy Cabin
The terms and expressions used in the present General Conditions of Sale are defined as follows: "Air France": Société Air France, a limited liability company incorporated under French law, with a registered office at 45 rue de Paris, F-95747 Roissy CDG Cedex, France, and registered with the Registry of Commerce and Companies of Bobigny under number 420 495 178. “Air France flights”: Short-haul flight (flights operated by an Airbus aircraft) or Medium-haul flight (flights operated in by an Airbus aircraft) or Long-haul flights comprising an AF flight number and provided by Air France, offering the possibility of reserving a Standard Seat. "Business Cabin": area aboard the aircraft for customers who have purchased a Business fare ticket. "Customer": an individual person of the age of majority with a reservation in the Economy cabin holding an e-ticket and wishing to reserve a Standard Seat. Air France advises all persons with reduced mobility who have special travel needs, notably those requiring more leg room, to contact SAPHIR services (via the "Contact us" section of our website) prior to reserving a Seat Option. "Economy Cabin": area aboard the aircraft for customers who have purchased an economy fare ticket. "General Conditions of Sale" or "Conditions" or "Present": the present Conditions defining the General Conditions of Sale for a Standard Seat Option. The price is rounded to the nearest whole unit and varies according to exchange rates, which are revised twice per year "Standard Seat": any seat in the Economy Cabin except for seats sold as Seat Options (Seat at the front of the cabin, Duo Seats and Extra Legroom Seats.) "Standard Seat Option": opportunity offered to Customers to reserve a Standard Seat under the present Conditions, subject to availability. "Websites": Air France websites accessible through www.airfrance.com
2.1 A Customer may purchase a Standard Seat Option, subject to availability, on Air France Flights up to 30h before departure:
- when purchasing a ticket online
- after purchasing a ticket, in the "My Bookings" section of our websites
- at Air France ticket offices and call centres
- through their travel agent.
Some Customers can reserve a Standard Seat at the time of purchasing their ticket or, after purchasing their ticket, in the "My Bookings" section of our websites up to 30h before flight departure. Within 30h before the flight, Standard Seat selection is free (For more information, please refer to article 5 - Refund Conditions). 2.2 This Option cannot be booked online when purchasing the ticket in the following cases: Customers with reduced mobility who require special services must contact the Saphir services (via the “Contact Us” section of our Websites) before booking a Standard Seat Option.
3.1 Customers can pay for the Standard Seat Option using one of the following payment cards: American Express, Mastercard/Eurocard, Visa, Diners, UATP, JCB. 3.2 Standard Seat Options can be paid in cash at Air France ticket offices. 3.3 Standard Seat Option can be paid using Miles. After purchasing their ticket, Flying Blue members can use Miles to pay for their Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our websites. 3.4 Blue Credits can be used to pay for Standard Seat Options.Bluebiz members can use their Blue Credits to pay for the Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our websites.
4.1 Air France will make every effort to respect any Standard Seat assignment reserved according to the present Conditions. The Customer is informed by the present Conditions that Air France may be required to modify Standard Seat assignments for operational reasons related to security and/or safety measures or operational irregularities, even after boarding. In such cases, Air France cannot be held responsible. The price of the Standard Seat will be reimbursed according to the terms listed in Article 5 below to Customers who could not travel on the seat number initially reserved under the present Conditions. 4.2 A Standard Seat Option reserved by a Customer is personal non-transferable. 4.3 A Standard Seat reserved by a Customer may be exchanged to purchase another available Standard Seat, subject to availability and payment of price differnce, either online in the "My Bookings" section of our websites or directly through your travel agent. 4.4 A Customer reserving a Standard Seat can only do so in his or her own name or for a person who has duly assigned the Customer the authority to reserve a Standard Seat in his or her name and account, hereafter named "Mandate Passenger". In this case, the Mandate Passenger is deemed to be familiar with and have accepted the present Conditions, and the Customer guarantees the respect of the Mandate Passenger for all the present Conditions. 4.5 The Seat Option is associated with an Air France flight number and must be used on the day of departure of the flight for which the Customer has purchased a Standard Seat , unless the change has been made by the Customer. 4.6 The Seat Option purchased by a Customer is only refundable if under the cases provided for in article 5 "Refund conditions". 4.7 Members of the Flying Blue loyalty program will accumulate Miles and XP.
5.1 A Customer having reserved a Standard Seat may only obtain a refund for the Price of the Standard Seat in the following situations:
- the flight for which he or she reserved the Standard Seat is canceled; the same Standard Seat number or equivalent Standard Seat could not be honored on the rebooked flight,
- the same Standard Seat number or an equivalent Standard Seat could not be assigned by Air France due to operational reasons related to operational irregularities or security and/or safety requirements.
Air France shall not be liable and shall not be deemed to have failed in its obligations in the event of non-performance of all or part of the services covered by the present contract due to a case of force majeure as defined or interpreted by French law.
In such a case, the Customer shall not be entitled to any indemnity, interest, or compensation for any direct or indirect loss suffered as a result of the failure to provide services.

Terms and Conditions of Sale for an "Empty Seat" option and "My Extra Space" option on Air France flights in Economy cabin
Within these Terms and Condiions of Sale, the following terms are used with the meaning given below:
"Air France": Société Air France, a limited liability company under French law, whose registered office is located at 45, rue de Paris, F-95747 Roissy CDG Cedex, France, registered in the Bobigny Trade and Companies Register under number 420 495 178.
"Customer": an individual person of the age of majority who has booked a long-haul flight in the Economy cabin or a short-haul or medium-haul flight in the Economy cabin, who holds an electronic ticket and wishes to reserve a Seat Option. Any person with reduced mobility requiring special assistance, and in particular more legroom, is advised to contact the Saphir service (via the "Contact Us" section of our website) prior to reserving a Seat Option.
"Business Cabin" : area aboard the aircraft exclusive to customers who have purchased a Business fare ticket.
"Economy cabin": area aboard the aircraft for customers who have purchased an Economy fare ticket.
"Premium cabin": area aboard the aircraft located between the Business and Economy cabins for customers who have purchased a Premium fare ticket.
"Terms and Conditions of Sale" or "Conditions" or "Present": the Conditions herein defining the General Conditions of Sale for a Seat Option.
"Empty Seat Option" or "My Extra Space Option" or "Seat Option": possibility offered to the Customer to reserve one or more "Empty Seats" and "My Extra Space" under the conditions defined herein, subject to availability.
"Price": price in euros*, including tax, per person for the benefit of reserving a Seat Option. The price of a Seat reservation depends on the Seat Option selected by the Customer and varies depending on travel dates, destination and the seat location on the aircraft. The Price will be indicated at the time of purchase. After purchase, a confirmation email will be sent to the Customer.

"Empty seat": one or more seats in the Economy cabin which has been blocked by a customer in addition to his or her allocated seat, allowing the customer to travel with more privacy. The customer does not have exclusive use of the blocked seats, which may sometimes be used by other customers seated in the same row.
"My Extra Space": all seats in the same row (i.e. seats not separated by an aisle) in the Economy cabin which are blocked off by a customer in addition to his or her allocated seat, allowing him or her to travel with more privacy, space and comfort for personal use.
"Websites": Air France websites accessible via www.airfrance.com
“Air France flight”: Long-haul, Medium-haul and Short-haul flights, with an Air France flight number and operated by Air France, allowing you to reserve a Seat Option.
“Short-haul flight”: Short-haul flight with an Air France flight number and operated by Air France, allowing you to reserve a Seat Option.
“Long-haul flight”: Long-haul flight with an Air France flight number and operated by Air France, allowing you to reserve a Seat Option.
“Medium-haul flight”: Medium-haul flight with an Air France flight number and operated by Air France, allowing you to reserve a Seat Option.
2.1 A Customer may purchase a Seat Option on Air France Flights :
- during online check-in,
- as soon as check-in begins, from the “My Bookings” section of our website.
2.2 In the case of a Flying Blue reward ticket, the Customer may reserve a Seat Option when checking in online.
2.3 The Customer, in possession of a group ticket, may reserve a Seat Option at the time of online check-in.
2.4. The "My Extra Space" Seat Option cannot be booked for children traveling alone or children using the Kids Solo service
3.1 Customers can pay for the Seat Option using one of the following payment cards: American Express, Mastercard/Eurocard, Visa, Diners, UATP, JCB. 3.2. For Flying Blue members, payment for the Seat Option can be made by debiting Flying Blue Miles.
3.3 Blue Credits can be used to pay for Seat Options. BlueBiz members can use their Blue Credits to pay for the Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our website.
3.4 Air France will make every effort to respect the allocation of the Seat Option as reserved in accordance with these Conditions. The Customer is hereby informed that Air France may be obliged, for operational reasons related to safety and/or security requirements, or due to operating irregularities, to modify the allocation of the Seat Option, including after boarding. In this case, Air France may not be held liable, and the Customer who was unable to benefit from the Seat Option in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth herein, will be reimbursed for the price of the Seat Option in accordance with the Terms and Conditions set forth in article 5 below.
3.5 A Seat Option reserved by a Customer is non-transferable.
3.6. A Seat Option reserved by a Customer may not be transfered to another flight.
3.7. A Seat Option reserved by the Customer cannot be modified for the purchase of another Seat Option on the same flight.
4.1 By reserving a Seat Option, the Customer must have the capacity to enter into contractual relations.
4.2 When reserving a Seat Option, the Customer agrees to provide Air France with exact information and refrains from reserving if he or she does not meet the present Conditions. Failure to do so will result in Air France assigning a different seat to the Customer.
4.3 A Customer reserving a Seat Option can only do so in their own name or for a person who has duly assigned the Customer the authority to reserve a Seat Option in their name and account, hereafter named "Mandate Passenger". In this case, the Mandate Passenger is deemed to be familiar with and have accepted the present Conditions, and the Customer guarantees the respect of the Mandate Passenger for all the present Conditions.
4.4 The Seat Option is associated with an Air France flight number and must be used on the day of departure of the flight for which the Customer has purchased a Seat Option.
4.5 The Seat Option purchased by a Customer is only refundable if it meets the refund criteria listed in article 5 "Refund conditions".
5.1 5.1 A Customer having reserved a Seat Option may only obtain a refund for the Price of the Seat Option in the following situations:
- The flight for which the Customer reserved the Seat Option is canceled and the Seat Option could not be honored on the rebooked flight.
- Air France reassigned the Customer to another Seat or its equivalent due to operational reasons related to operational irregularities or security and/or safety requirements.
- The Customer has purchased a Flex fare and cancels, at their request, their entire trip.
Under this clause, neither Air France nor the Customer shall be held liable or considered to have failed in their respective obligations in the event of total or partial non-performance of their commitments as defined in the General Terms and Conditions, if such non-performance results from a force majeure event, as defined or interpreted by the legislation of the applicable country.
In such cases, neither party shall be entitled to compensation or damages for any direct or indirect loss resulting from the non-performance of the services.
Air France reserves the right to modify these Conditions at any time.
Subscriptions to the Option shall be subject to the Conditions in force at the time of booking, unless a change to these Conditions is required by law or a governmental authority (in which case this change will also apply to all orders already placed).
